  • PBG History

Pewaukeeans for Better Government is a citizens' action group. Our goal is to inform the citizens of Pewaukee about how local government is being run. Formed late in 2004 by a small group of concerned citizens around the decisions made by City of Pewaukee's elected officials at budget time, the PBG acts as a watch dog of local politics.

Our organization's mission is to ensure that information is available to everyone. We research issues and make that information readily available to the public. Where do we get the information? From newspapers, public documents and we attend Common Council and City Commitee meetings.

What have we accomplished since our group formed?

We successfully collected over 3000 signatures to institute a recall election of former Mayor, Jeffrey G. Nowak

We have provided important information to the public through flyers, meetings, letters to the Editors of area newspapers, and through Newspaper, Television and Radio interviews.

The candidates who challenged Jeff Nowak in the November 15, 2005 Election promised Pewaukee citizens many of the reforms we have been asking for in local government. Those reforms include an ethical, fiscally responsible, open, and responsive administration.

What do we hope to accomplish in the future?

Public awareness and participation of concerned citizens is one of our main goals. We believe that the more people pay attention to what is happening in their community, the less chance there will be a repeat of what happened in 2005. We were successful in removing Jeff Nowak because we had so many people involved. If people become engaged in forming an ethical and open government in Pewaukee we will all benefit for years to come.

What can you do to make Pewaukee a better place to live?

The best thing each of us can do for our community is to express our opinions and concerns about local issues to our elected officials. We elect them, but many of us have never even spoken to or met the people who represent us in our community. The easiest way to do this is to attend Common Council meetings. If that is not possible a phone call to your Aldermen or the Mayor is a great alternative. If you would like to contact any City of Pewaukee elected official you can find their contact information by calling City Hall at 262.691.0770 or via City of Pewaukee website at www.cityofpewaukee.us.

When local officials are on the ballot for re-election make sure you educate yourself on the issues and vote for the person who most closely represents your viewpoint. We need a strong electorate to insure that our elected officials adhere to the beliefs of their constituants.

If you have any interest in helping be a part of the changes we anticipate, please VOTE ON APRIL 6, 2010 as three Aldermanic Seats and the Mayoral seat will be on the ballot.
