On August 30th, one day before former Alderman Anthony Balistreri was sentenced to a 45-year prison sentence for 19 felony counts of sexually assaulting two children and possesstion of child pornography, Alderman David Mokros submitted a letter to the court asking for leniency at sentencing.
Below see the PBG's statement to the Common Council on Sept 5th:
PBG Statement to Common Council Sept 5th, 2006:
City of Pewaukee Alderman David Mokros, as an elected official, is exhibiting poor judgment, and a total disregard for community values by submitting a letter to Judge Hassin asking for leniency at sentencing for Anthony Balistreri on 19 felony counts of heinous crimes against children, which occurred prior to and during Balistreri’s term as Alderman,
In light of the conviction of the former City of Pewaukee Alderman, it is highly inappropriate for a sitting council member to submit a character reference letter to the court, thereby attempting to minimize the effect these crimes had on his victims.
Additionally, Mokros stated that he knew Balistreri for ten years. As such, he knew him as Anthony Gumphrey and hid Balistreri’s name change from the community, thereby concealing Balistreri’s background as Anthony Gumphrey.
David Mokros owes an apology to the victims for his lack of sensitivity, and the community for the outright disregard for the office that he holds.
